The Trump administration has been using immigration enforcement in unprecedented ways to retaliate against people for political speech and advocacy, particularly on Palestinian rights— violating our Constitutional rights.
We’ve witnessed such weaponization of the INA against Mahmoud Khalil, Salah Sarsour, and Leqaa Kordia, among a growing number of community members, students, and solidarity activists. When these cases reach immigration court, a clause in the INA allows Secretary Rubio to target people for deportation based on their political speech and vague “foreign policy risk.” This clause has been used to throw people into ICE detention and obstruct due process for Palestinians and their allies. Then immigration judges can use the INA to deport activists. Immigration judges are part of the Department of Justice, not an independent judicial branch, making congressional oversight of political interference especially important.
Stand with Salah, Leqaa, and all those targeted by this Administration: we need legislative change to stop the Trump Administration's assault on the First Amendment and prevent these kinds of abuses from ever occurring again.
Join us today in calling on Congress to act by amending the Immigration and Nationality Act to exclude unconstitutional foreign policy grounds for deportation. Help us ensure that all of our First Amendment rights are protected from this authoritarian administration’s crackdown on speech it doesn’t agree with.
