On Tuesday, June 20th, hundreds of armed Israeli settlers carried out a series of violent attacks, deliberately setting homes and cars on fire in the Palestinian village of Turmusayya in the occupied West Bank. The vast majority of the residents of the village happen to be Palestinian Americans. The settlers who attacked Turmusayya from the neighboring illegal settlement of Shiloh, killed Omar Hisham Jbara al-Qatin, who was defending his family home in the village. Omar was a father of two young children and a US Permanent Resident.

TAKE ACTION: Email the Biden Administration and urge them to launch an FBI investigation into the attacks against US citizens in Palestine. The Biden Administration should demand Israel cease all attacks on Turmusayya immediately.

Similar to what occurred in Huwara a few months ago, this event can be defined as a “pogrom.” A pogrom is a violent attack or organized massacre perpetrated against a specific ethnic, religious, or social group, typically involving destruction, looting, and physical harm.

Settlers used brutal force, attacking individuals, their homes, and vehicles. IDF soldiers protected the settlers and participated in the attack, leading to numerous suffocation cases. Palestinians were locked in their homes, and farms were burned. At least one Palestinian has been killed, over 34 Palestinians wounded, 30 homes attacked, and 134 vehicles set on fire.

Dear President Biden, I am writing as a constituent and supporter of Americans for Justice in Palestine Action (AJP Action) to urge you to condemn the ongoing attacks by Israeli settlers against Palestinian civilians, including Palestinian Americans, in the occupied West Bank. On Tuesday, June 20th, another “pogrom” unfolded, this time in the village of Turmusayya (a large percentage of Turmusayya’s residents are American). A pogrom is a violent attack or organized massacre perpetrated against a specific ethnic, religious, or social group, typically involving destruction, looting, and physical harm. It's imperative that immediate and tangible actions are taken to prevent further harm and ensure the safety of all individuals involved. With the protection of Israeli soldiers, Israeli settlers engaged in brutal attacks against the unarmed residents of Turmussaya. This includes not only physical assaults on people but also the deliberate destruction of their homes and vehicles. Disturbingly, tear gas canisters were fired at residential areas, resulting in numerous cases of suffocation. Considering that many affected individuals are American citizens, it is crucial that the Biden admin takes a solid stance to protect its citizens and people under occupation in general by a state that the U.S. sponsors. Therefore, we urgently call on you to: 1. Demand Israel to immediately cease all attacks on Turmussaya and other Palestinian neighborhoods and ensure the safety and security of its residents. This includes holding the responsible parties accountable for their actions. 2. Temporarily suspend military aid to Israel pending a thorough investigation into the reported violence in Turmussaya. It is essential to ensure that U.S. assistance is not indirectly contributing to or supporting such acts of aggression, especially when American citizens are involved. 3. Launch an immediate FBI investigation into the alleged pogrom and attacks in Turmussaya. The seriousness of these incidents warrants a comprehensive and independent inquiry to identify those responsible for committing crimes against American citizens and humanity in general and bring them to justice. 4. Suspend all efforts to admit Israel into the Visa Waiver Program (VWP) until a thorough investigation is completed and appropriate actions are taken to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future. Admission into the VWP should be contingent upon a commitment to upholding human rights and preventing violence against vulnerable communities. 5. Instruct the IRS to investigate entities and individuals in the U.S. who are supporting the settler expansion in Israel and look into the possibility of designating violent settler movements as foreign terrorist organizations for committing crimes against humanity and American citizens. By taking these urgent measures, the United States can demonstrate its commitment to protecting its citizens and accountability. Sincerely,
